life at the shelter
the dog days of summer are upon us and our dogs at the shelter truly understand the term. the building where we are housed is quite hot so we keep the pups water buckets full and the fans blowing day and night.fortunately our four legged buddies seem to take it all in stride. they play, run, tumble and giggle with each other day after day. yes, they giggle, if you don't believe me come spend time with the dogs, get to know them, you will see it!
several of our charges have discovered the art of escape and will have a fine time running about while we are away. they grab toys, cookies and cleaning tools and have themselves a fine ole time.
recently, eli decided he wanted to see what the shelter looked like from above. he is a climber and we knew that when he came to us, so we put a blue tarp over the pen. for several months he never attempted to escape. but one day. one day the guys came in from lunch and eli was nowhere to be seen. he wasn't in his pen, he wasn't running around the shelter, he wasn't outside! the guys were getting worried and then he went "WOOF" in a playful tone and they looked up. he was SITTING on top of his tarp. happy as a bird.
with some coaxing and some wiggling they got him down. tightened up the tarp and thus far eli has remained inside of rather than on top of his pen.
he was giggling. we heard him
