Notes from a rescuer...

We Simply MUST get our own shelter!

We are over run with dogs and cats needing sanctuary. In the space that we currently rent, we have more dogs than we should. The puppies are getting too big for the puppy pens and are fighting due to cramped space. The dogs are getting less time outside for play due to the numbers and the limitation of 2 small play yards. We have about 10 dogs boarding in vet clinics, and several dogs in temporary foster homes. Additionally, I have received approximately 15 calls this weekend from people who need us to help them with some stray cat or dog who has wandered up or been dumped upon their property.

We have a site chosen in Rankin County which would fit our needs, however the grant we have been given for purchasing a site is quite a bit shy of the amount needed to just purchase the property, much less retrofit it for a shelter.

We have a study shared with us by another rescue organization that shows; out of the stray animal pick ups by animal control officers, Rankin County has the highest number of pick ups. 94 percent of those pick ups are euthanized. If we had our shelter, we could not only help the local animal control officers and communities with stray animal issues, we could help the animals with a safe secure place while we acclimated them to life with humans who care.

August 3rd, we are having our first fundraiser, however it is only going to be able to supplement our operations costs and get the public aware of our existence. We will need foundation help in order to achieve our deep desire for the purchase of this much needed shelter.

exciting times for ARF

we are busily scurrying around putting together the pieces for our fundraiser (August 3rd - Serenity Acres Farms - Wirtz Road - Flowood Ms - email if you would like an invite sent to you).

there is going to be lovely food, wine, lemonade and cold coke-a-cola, a fabulous silent auction, music and a very very short speech about what we are accomplishing and hope to accomplish in the coming months.

We just received word we will have an autographed football from Deuce, we have two condos a the beach for use in October, paintings by local professional artists, dinner and a play for two, lovely things for your home, yoga lessons, a something from THE SWEET POTATO QUEENS (if you don't know, you need to) and much much more.

this is going to be so much fun and hopefully raise awareness of our work and get people to remember us when thinking of adding a cat/kitten - dog/puppy to your home.

dogs, cats, shelter, fundraiser

I have not blogged in such a long time. between the copius amount of dogs and cats out there needing our help, trying to buy a piece of heaven for our own shelter and putting together our first fundraiser, I have been a bit lax on updating those who may be intesrested in following our animal rescue. I appologize for that.

we have rescued a bunch more babies, some have found homes, some have not. we still have many of our same animals in the shelter, adoptions are down during the summer with family vacations and such.

one of our roof top puppies has a home and she is FABULOUS. she has a little girl for her best friend, a huge yard to run large circles in and a princess pink bed that she thinks is the best thing since rice and gravy. oh yeah, she gets rice and gravy too. her name is adalaide and they call her addy.

we have selected a site for our very own shelter in rankin county mississippi. rankin county does not have a shelter and the largest number of stray companion animals in mississippi come from rankin county. of those strays 94% of them are put down. if we are able to achieve this goal of having a shelter there, we will have our work cut out for us. but the animals deserving a better chance will benefit, as will the communities. if you are interested in helping us help the county and the animals, please contact me via the email on the site and I will let you know of what you can do.

August 3rd we are having our first fundraiser. there is a lovely horse riding facility on wirtz road in rankin county called serenity acres (serenityacresllc.com) where we will have wine/hor d oevures, music and a silent auction. tickets are $30 per person $50 per couple ($5 more if purchased at the door. please email me to get on the invite list if you would like to attend. we would love to see you there.

as tigger likes to say to pooh, tata for now.
