a life with a dog

I just read a friends words of her life with her dog. She had to have her companion put down earlier this week and the pain in her heart seemed unbearable. However, the words of the life they had for 14 years together were of a family who loved, lived, played, protected and thrived as a dog and his/her family should.

she adopted her dog from a shelter, the pup saw her come in and immediately told her "it's me, you are here for me!". and she was. two years later; they moved off 6,000 miles away to Alaska, enjoyed the wide open frontier chasing moose and elk, and then later after a divorce - moved back home to the northeast and settled in there. eventually the pet started to decline and then, it was time. my friend had to make the painful decision to gently let her go.

her words of their years together touched me as a testimony of what an adoption should be. a commitment of love and life.

that dog who came from a shelter just needed a chance. a small chance to join a family and the rest of her life she gave them the unconditional love that only a pet can give.

please adopt a shelter dog or cat. that love is just waiting for you to be the one to come in and get them

I love my "recycled" min-pins. I wish that everyone could experience the joy that these two sweeties give to our family.

Great blog, you are doing great. All three of my dogs were on their way to the pound when I took them in. In fact, Bear is saying hi to you right now.

I love my round-the-way shelter dog. He's given me way more than I've given him!

My 8-10 year old chihuahua/bassenji mix who thinks she's still a puppy 5 years after we adopted her from the city pound thanks you very much for the work you do. The world needs more people like you!
